ABOUT THE TUTOR

RAY SARLIN

An active amateur family historian, Ray used to have a lot of free time before he discovered genealogy. Similar to many peers, he didn't develop an interest in family history until most relatives with answers were deceased. He is presently struggling with an online 7,000 person family tree that dates back 1,000 years.

A veteran with Infantry combat command as well as general staff experience, Ray also facilitates a U3A course entitled Military History - A Battlefield Perspective. He has been known to develop an interest in specific historical wars and battles that his ancestors took part in.

Following visits to Israel in 2008 and to Turkey and Greece in 2012, Ray has made study of the bible a major retirement project. He utilises his doctoral research to support his non-religious U3A course entitled "What the Bible is About - An Informed Appreciation of the Bible."
Daniel and Rebecca Boone, American Pioneers

First cousin (eight times removed) Daniel Boone (1734-1820), veteran of the French and Indian War, and his wife Rebecca Ann Bryan Boone (1739-1813) escort settlers through the Cumberland Gap. Painted by George Caleb Bingham c. 1852.
